Alex Chimienti

Well met!

I’ve worked in screenwriting, playwriting, and fiction and spend most of my free time reading/playing tabletop RPGs. I’m versed in dialogue, narrative structure, and character development. I’m proud to be a proactive communicator who readily adapts to feedback and can change project priority on a moment’s notice.

My career highlight (so far!) is being published in 4-time BAFTA nominated Stoic Studio’s Banner Saga: Tales from the Caravan.

Runners-up? Either actually finishing a DND campaign or having Rupert Holmes (lyricist/composer of the Pina Colada song) compliment my writeup of his musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Narrative Development

Embracing Horror

We’re working on a horror game and our core design pillar is to motivate the player to embrace the horror. I write up a story built around player actions and this pillar. Then we get feedback that players want to crouch and I’m asked to incorporate crouching into the story. Here’s how I’d do it.

Same Game, New Plots

The team is proud of our story. Then the producer comes in and says we’re scrapping it. The new story needs to work with the mechanics and world to present the same fantasy but with a new plot. How about three?

The Lone Varl

I looked to my favorite tough decision emulator, Stoic Studio’s The Banner Saga, to flowchart a scene where different parties with their own goals and resources come into conflict and it’s up to the player to handle the situation. No good or evil, just moral quandaries and consequences.

Game Writing

Red Rider

Play as a carrier who must navigate the treacheries of the woods and that which lies within as you race to save a dying woman. With each choice comes opportunity and consequence.

An interactive fiction game based on the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood.

The World’s Greatest Detectives

A scene in screenplay format where three detectives are confronted by the mystery of an elevator’s interrupted descent. Featuring Batman (Batman The Telltale Series), Bigby Wolf (The Wolf Among Us), and Cole Phelps (L.A. Noire).
